The Academy of Russian Ballet

In 2006 Monica Loughman established The Academy of Russian Ballet at The Holy Child Girls School in Whitehall, Dublin. Junior classes are taught by Ms Ainé McNamara, under the direct supervision of Ms Loughman, while the senior and more advanced students are put through their paces by Monica herself. Her experience in the world of professional ballet gives her students an invaluable insight into the world of ballet today.

All of Monica’s students are encouraged to audition for the Irish Youth Russian Ballet Company and any other dance opportunities or auditions that may arise. Monica hopes to co-operate with dance teachers all over Ireland to ensure the best results for all students.

As Monica has worked with many teachers during her career, she recognises the need to expose her students to other teachers and teaching styles. This helps to form a well rounded dance training. Many guest teachers from Ireland and worldwide are invited to teach different ballet styles and techniques to the students during the year.

While she continues to dance professionally and has maintained close ties with the Tchaikovsky Perm Ballet Company, Monica hopes to give Irish students the chance to study and work in Russia should they wish to do so. The emphasis on training in the school is to get young dancers ready to persue their goals in a professional dance environment.

In 2009, Monica introduced the first Academy Of Russian Ballet exams to be based on her curriculum, created specifically for the Irish students’ needs with a unique Russian flare.

The Academy continues to gain popularity within Ireland, opening new schools in both Blackrock, Inchicore, and more to be confirmed in the next year.
